Last week we visited the Hobgoblin on Gloucester Rd to celebrate a friend’s birthday with some amazing burgers. My husband and I have pretty much tried all the burgers that Bristol has to offer and now feel that we are burger connoisseurs! It’s with this wisdom that we have decided “The Hob” is without a doubt the best burger venue in Bristol. Why else would we return time and time again!? It may not be much to look at, I will give you that, but if you just set aside the rustic look of the place and focus on the burgers, you will be in for a treat.
We started with some Dirty Dirty fries (£9.95) and shared them amongst the table. A mountain of fries, covered with 2 kinds of cheese, BBQ sauce, pulled pork and then topped with coriander mayo. Very calorific and absolutely delicious!
We coerced the birthday boy into having the biggest burger on the menu – The Triple Bypass (£16.95) 3 burgers, 6 bacon rashers, 3 hash browns, blue, Swiss and cheddar cheese and a pickle on the top. A real beast of a burger. The burger patty tasted great and was cooked all the way through. Just how we like it! The seeded bun came glazed and toasted. All the elements worked well together and as you can see were plentiful. Needless to say he couldn’t eat it all, but he agreed that it was the best burger he has ever had!
I went for The Rodeo burger (£9.95) burger, crispy fried onions, BBQ sauce, onion rings, bacon and cheese. I haven’t had this one before, but as always was very happy with my choice. Well-cooked beef patty with all the extras on top. There was no way I could eat this in a ladylike fashion, it was a little bit messy but was totally worth it!
My husband and my friend both went for The Squeeler (£11.95) burger, smoked pulled pork, bacon and cheese. The pulled pork was just mouth wateringly delicious and complimented perfectly with the cheese and smoked bacon. I think this is the best burger they have. I have certainly had this one quite a few times!
If you haven’t been to The Hobgoblin yet, you really are missing out. As you can see the burgers are epic and The Dirty Dirty Fries are legendary. I really can’t talk this place up enough, it’s always the first place I recommend to people who want to try out Bristol’s burger scene. I’m already looking forward to our next visit!
