I recently visited the Italian Kitchen. Located on the high street in Hanham, they are a lovely local restaurant that serve traditional Italian cuisine. I went with a friend, Antonella on her recommendation, as you can tell by the name she is Italian, so I trust her judgement implicitly when it comes to dining out for Italian food!
From the outside the venue seems small and unassuming, but once we were inside and walked through to the rear, it opened up into a huge dining area with modern and sophisticated feel. The waiters were all friendly and attentive and the service throughout was really great, it was easy to see why this place is so popular with the locals.
We decided to go straight for the mains……
I chose the Lamb shank £16.00). It came served with parmesan mash, seasonal vegetables and gravy. The lamb was soft and just fell from the bone. The mash was creamy and tasted great with the parmesan….. it was a huge portion! I love that the vegetables were cooked just right with a slight crisp to them. This was a really well put together and very tasty plate.
My friend ordered the spiced belly of pork (£15.00). It came with Tuscan beans and vegetables. I stole a piece and it tasted just beautiful, soft, delicate and everything you could want from a piece of belly pork. Again, a good portion size too. I am going to have this next time I visit for sure.
We also ordered sides of the chunky double cooked chips and the sweet potato fries. It wasn’t necessary as the meals were huge, but we are greedy so what can I say…..!
As soon as I was shown the dessert menu, I knew I was in trouble. A huge selection of my favourites was on offer! I eventually went for the Banoffee pie (£4.50) . It was another generous portion, a common theme in this place. It came with Lashings of cream above of a sweet toffee sauce with chunks of banana, all on top a crisp and crumbly biscuit base. It certainly hit the spot for me. I am now eager to work my way through their dessert menu on my next visits and hope that they will be as delicious as this was!
