Last night a friend and I visited the Bulrush restaurant in Bristol. This place has been on my list for a while and I was excited to finally get to visit them. The venue is situated on Cotham Hill and is actually very unassuming from the outside, inside however, the décor is fresh, clean and has an understated classy feel to it.
The service received from the waiters was what you would expect from a fine dining establishment, they were polite, helpful and attentive. They seemed to be quite knowledgeable about the menu, and they explained what each course entailed as it was plated in front of us.
We both opted for the taster menu of course. They have a main and a vegetarian taster menu to choose from, the waiter let us know straight away that they were happy to swap courses between the two menus if you had any preferences. I’m not a vegetarian, however I’m not a great lover of seafood so the fact that they were happy to swap the fish courses for the vegetarian counterparts was great news for me to hear.
The menu consisted of ten separate dishes (if you include the pre-starter and the petit fours). I have to say this was one of the most beautifully presented menus I’ve seen in a while, but not only was it all so visually pleasing, each course tasted delightful and I can honestly say included flavour combinations that I have never experienced before. My friend and I were both blown away with how creative and enjoyable each plate of food was.
The Bulrush is a definite 10/10 for me. I’m eager to return and bring more friends along to sample the amazing food that Bulrush create.
